Weather forecaster under a cloud

With Audlem viewers glued to BBC's North West Tonight on Wednesday evening as the programme was broadcast live from the village, few locals will have been tuned into Central TV's evening bulletin. In contrast to the BBC's Dianne Oxberry, who gave a faultless live regional weather forecast between the heavy showers from Audlem's Square, Central TV's Joanne Malin was heading towards a stormy and unsettled couple of days after her live broadcast from nearby Trentham Gardens. Asked by her studio what the weather was like at Trentham, she was, to say the least, refreshingly candid: "It's pissing down," she reported.

In those few words, nearly a decade of swear-free broadcasting came to a lightning end. She immediately apologised to viewers saying she'd meant to say: "It was tipping down." It appears the rain was so heavy, her script had disintegrated. "When I realised what I'd said, I immediately corrected myself and said, 'Oh, I'm sorry, I should have said it is really raining quite heavily."

She might have thought the ensuing storm would blow over. Luckily, judging by pictures of her looking all bright and breezy in today's national press, Joanne clearly hasn't sunk into a deep depression. Despite the media coverage now raining down her head (That's enough weather references — ed.), Joanne's career could get even brighter (Sorry ed. — couldn't resist another).

And we thought it was all happening on the weather broadcasting front in Audlem on Wednesday.
