Those with memories of the war could have heard a familiar sound today as a Spitfire, with the distinct drone of the Crewe built Merlin engine, flew westwards low over Brookfield Golf Club and Hankelow. This week is the 70th anniversary of the first flight of the Spitfire, the plane which was pivotal in ensuring the country's survival during the Battle of Britain in 1940. It is likely the plane seen today has been involved in one of the anniversary celebrations that have taken place around the country.

As I left the Farm Foods cafe, I went into the Oxtail & Trotter butchers shop . Bought me a sheet of bacon ribs that I boil and enjoy to the full- making very good soup from the stock.
