Saints extend winning run after early scare

Another good victory from Audlem Saints Under 8s football team- but not before a scare! The game on Sunday (Vs Betley Yellow) was less than 30 secs old when Saints conceded a goal. They recovered some composure but couldn't break down the well organised Betley defence. Eventually, a good long range effort eluded the Betley keeper and the scores were levelled. The final 10 minute period started with the scores level at 1-1 but what could have been a tense finish was avoided by three quick Audlem goals to settle the match 4-1.

Saints have now played 9, won 8 and drawn 1. A remarkable statistic is that in those nine games they have conceded only 6 goals. With each game lasting 30 minutes, they only concede a goal, on average, every 45 minutes. That is a remarkable record for a team of 8 year olds who take it in turns to be the goalkeeper!

Next week, Audlem play Betley Blue, kick off 11.15.

Here's a snippet that might get Audlem historians interested.Reading a book entitled "Tales From The Old Inland Waterways", there is reference to the fact that there was a carpenter's workshop owned by the canal company on the wharf at Audlem.
