Audlem Parish Council Clerk, Jean White, has contacted Audlem Online with news of a vacancy on the Parish Council.

The notice reads as follows:

"Notice is hereby given pursuant to Section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972 that Norman Huntbach, formerly a member of Audlem Parish Council, has ceased to be a member and that a casual vacancy exists in the office of Councillor for the said Parish.

"On receipt of a request in writing from any ten local government electors for the said Parish, an election to fill the vacancy will be held within sixty days. If no such request is made the vacancy will be filled by the Parish Council.

"Requests for such an election should be addressed to:

"The Returning Officer
Middlewich Road
CW11 1HZ

"and must arrive not later than FOURTEEN days (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays) of the date of this notice (6th Jan 2010), signed by at least TEN ELECTORS of Audlem Parish.

"Information on the procedure for the filling of casual vacancies can be obtained by writing to the Returning Officer or by telephoning (01270) 686479."

Here's a snippet that might get Audlem historians interested.Reading a book entitled "Tales From The Old Inland Waterways", there is reference to the fact that there was a carpenter's workshop owned by the canal company on the wharf at Audlem. The carpenter was Bob Williams, and his main job was to do woodwork repairs to the locks in Audlem and Adderley flights. The date...
