Audlem Medical Practice

Last Friday, AudlemOnline published the results of the first two questions in a recent survey of attitudes about the Audlem Medical Practice. Today, we move on to a further couple of questions and responses.

Question 3 — As a practice we used to offer a minor injury service which was considerably cheaper than our patients attending the A&E department. Unfortunately the funding for this service has now been withdrawn--In view of the distance our patients have to travel to Leighton Hospital ( a 23 mile round trip), the pressures on A&E services and the extra cost that any intervention at A&E incurs for the local commissioning Group, do you think there is a case for this service to be re-commissioned in Audlem?

Yes: 88% No: 6% Not sure: 6%

The Medical Practice's conclusions: the results clearly indicate a preference for being treated at the surgery for minor injuries. We will put this to the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

Question 4 — As a practice (and unlike many others in the area) we have invested in providing Health Care Assistant services for our patients, such as blood testing, ECGs and respiratory function tests, to prevent our patients from having to make the 23 mile round trip to Leighton Hospital for these tests. Do you think it is appropriate for the local commissioning Group to withdraw funding for these services?

Yes: 5% No: 81% Not Sure: 14%

Conclusions: The majority clearly feel that the Healthcare assistant role is a valuable one and should remain in practice, patients do not want the funding for this withdrawn. We will feed this back to the CCG.

We will deal with the two remaining questions over the coming days. In the meantime, in case you missed it, here is a reminder of the responses to Q1,How would you rate the overall service provided by Audlem Medical Practice?

All the practice staff received mainly excellent or good ratings.

Receptionists saw 43% responding excellent, 41% good and 12% satisfactory with just 4% giving a poor rating.

Admin and management did see a 10% Don't Know rating but amongst those with an opinion 37% said excellent, 38% good and 12% satisfactory with just 3% saying poor.

Health care staff and nurses received the most positive responses with 63% opting for excellent, 31% good and 4% satisfactory and just 1% poor and 1% not knowing.

Doctors received an excellent rating from 57%, with 33% saying good and 7% satisfactory. Just 1% opted for poor and another 1% did not know.

The Medical Practice's conclusions were that there was always room for improvement but the results were generally very pleasing.
