It was good to see the new pub signs going up yesterday on the outside of the Lord Combermere in the Square. The pub reopens after its £400,000 plus refurbishment next Wednesday. The re-opening is not only good for those who want another pub where they can eat out and drink in style in Audlem, it is also good for local employment and will help attract visitors to the village.
The Lord Combermere has been closed since last September when work started. A number of serious problems put the project in some doubt during the early days but, to the relief of all who wanted to see a successful pub in what is a crucial site in the centre of the village, the owners, Enterprise Inns, put up more money and appear to have done a great job on the building. The new lessee, Derek Astley will be handed the keys this weekend and we welcome him to Audlem and wish him and his staff all the best.
