Waxwings in Audlem

Delighted to see recently the Chatbox post from Judy N: "3 Waxwings in my front garden today. Gorgeous little birds."

These birds, a little smaller than a starling, are scarce winter visitors to Britain most years but every now and then there is what is termed an 'eruption' when thousands fly over from northern Europe.

Flocks will feast on berries in gardens and parks and the birds are relatively tame.

Really worth keeping an eye out if you have rowan, blackthorn or similar trees in your garden.

Any interesting wildlife sightings are always of interest to AWEG, the Audlem Wildlife & Ecology Group. Simply email Chatbox or editor@audlem.org if you think anything you have seen may be of interest.
