Urgent call for responsible driving in Audlem village

HGVs and cars struggle to pass on Stafford Street

Whilst the majority of drivers passing through Audlem obey the speed limit and drive responsibly, Audlem Parish Council has recently received numerous complaints about vehicles speeding through the village. Grave concerns have also been raised about large vehicles such as tractors and HGVs mounting pavements or overhanging the central line to manoeuvre around parked cars or avoid collisions with speeding cars. Both these problems are dangerous on their own but seriously hazardous when combined.

Recently a large vehicle destroyed the safety barrier at the southern entrance to the canal towpath. The barrier was placed there to stop someone accidentally stepping onto the road as they come off the towpath onto the pavement, particularly children. Audlem Parish Council has asked Cheshire East Highways to replace this but we urge the public to be extra careful when driving near this section of the village.

In the interests of safety, we urge all drivers to please obey the 30 mph speed limit and to slow down drastically when they see oncoming farming vehicles to allow for careful manoeuvring on the village's small country lanes. We also ask that those driving larger vehicles consider seeking alternative routes that avoid coming through the centre of the village.

Finally, we would like to remind you that you are able to submit dash cam or video footage of motorists committing offences like speeding or dangerous driving to Cheshire Police using the form found on the link below. Please note that a driver must never use a mobile phone whilst driving, even if it's to take a photo of another road user committing a traffic offence. Be aware that ALL offences will be dealt with that are shown in any footage supplied. It is your responsibility as a driver to uphold the law.
