Chatbox on AudlemOnline.
Over the last year or two there has been increasing concern by AudlemOnline editors and some of our readers that Chatbox is in danger of becoming like "social media" where "trolls (i.e. those who post inflammatory or inappropriate messages or comments on the internet for the purpose of upsetting others.) feel free to post such messages.
The purpose of AudlemOnline has always been to promote the interests of our community and therefore, items which are unduly critical of local businesses OR of volunteers seeking to benefit the community, infringe our terms and conditions and will not be published.
Sometimes this criticism is bordering on freedom of speech and so has been tolerated but recently this has deteriorated with criticism of well meaning volunteers ( and sometimes editors!)
A few months ago we asked our readers whether Chatbox should continue as we move to the new version of our website due in December and if so whether posts should allow the use of pseudonyms. The response was strongly in favour of not being allowed to use pseudonyms.
We have decided, therefore, to move forward with this change on the existing Chatbox with immediate effect.
Therefore, contributors who wish to post items on Chatbox will be required to use their correct verifiable name and email address. The item will continue to be moderated in the normal way.
