Whilst Audlem running group have not run together for a couple of weeks now, group members continue to reap positive psychosocial health benefits by association.
Since the group's inception, Audlem runners have regularly used the popular messaging facility 'WhatsApp' to plan weekly runs and share running news. Since social isolation rules due to Covid-19, Audlem runners have been complying with social distancing and have been using WhatsApp more than usual to keep in touch and spirits high.
A recently published study lends empirical support for the added benefits of being part of Audlem running group despite the fact the group are currently not running together. Findings taken from a journal article by psychologists Kaye and Quinn (2019) showed how people who spent more time on WhatsApp also reported fewer feelings of isolation and perceived their relationships with friends as good quality along with reporting greater levels of self esteem.
So, in these unusual times one positive and unexpected thought for the day might be that being part of a running group that currently doesn't run can still be good for you. Who needs more of an incentive to join us when the time comes once again that we can all run together. Happy days.
Audlem running group would like to thank everyone for complying with the government guidance on staying at home to protect yourselves and others.
Stay safe and well.
