With the General Election now called for 6th May, the following information from the Cheshire East website might be of interest:
Are you registered to vote?In order to vote your name must be included on the electoral register. Check you are registered to vote now by contacting the electoral services section — Tel 01270 529570 or at email@example.com">firstname.lastname@example.org
If your name is not on the register or you have recently moved house then to register you will need to complete a voter registration form from the aboutmyvote website or telephone the Electoral Services Section on 01270 529570 and ask for a form to be posted to you. You need to sign your own form; someone else cannot do it for you.
Voting by postAnyone may vote by post instead of going to a polling station. If you would like a postal vote please contact the elections office and we will send an application form to you. Please note that applications must be received by the elections office at least 11 working days before voting day.
About postal votingIf you know that you will want to vote by post apply early. Do not wait until the election date is known.
Once a postal vote has been issued you cannot vote in person at a polling station.
Postal votes can be sent to any address, even abroad, BUT it may take some time for the ballot paper to reach you and for you to return it by election day if your vote is to be counted.
If you wish to cancel your postal vote you must do so in writing by contacting the Electoral Services Section.
