Audlem lost both games in the local derby against Haslington in the Cheshire Cricket Alliance, despite putting up good shows. Haslington have been playing their cricket at a much higher level until last season, but they have now rejoined the Cheshire league set up and have to start in the lowest league.
In the 1st XI game, Audlem were put in to bat and were soon in trouble when opener Dave Parry was caught with the score at only 14. However, they soon rallied through George Gay (33) and Steve Swallow (45) who added 50 for the next wicket. Swallow and Tom Measures (58) then took the score to 133 before Swallow was bowled. Wickets steadily tumbled until Audlem's innings finished on a respectable 195 for 7.
In reply, Haslington were also soon in trouble when they lost their first wicket with the score at 25 through wicketkeeper, Paul Dean's, quick reaction. Haslington's opener snicked a fast delivery from Stuart Elkes and Parry, standing at first slip, managed to parry the ball in the air. Dean dived to catch the ball before it hit the ground. However, Haslington gained the upper hand as Jonny Phipps (80) and Dave France (41) piled on the runs and they eventually won by 6 wickets. For Audlem, Elkes and Parry took two wickets apiece. Audlem gained 12 points and Haslington 20.
Unfortunately there is no report for the 2nd XI fixture, in which Audlem bowled Haslington out for 137, but were themselves all out for 85. Audlem took 6 points from the match and Haslington 25.
On Saturday the 1st XI is at home to Kingsley, whilst the 2nds travel to the Stockport area to play Norbury. Both games start at 2pm.
