Cheshire roads get extra funding

We hope that Cheshire County Council has been following the Vote Poll and Forum debate on Audlem Online about the state of our rural roads. If so, they have certainly acted promptly with an announcement that the roads budget will be boosted by £2.1 million and will be spent from now until the end of March on estate and rural roads.

Of the money, £338,000 is destined for Crewe & Nantwich. A number of correspondents have pointed out that road surfaces in some parts of the borough are of exemplary standard whereas, according to our Vote Poll, 82% do not think Audlem's rural roads are fit for purpose. We hope, therefore, a badly needed chunk of that money will be heading our way.

Audlem Parish Council has been in regular contact with the County Councillor who made the announcement about the additional funding, executive member for highways, Eveleigh Moore Dutton over critical issues such as the A525. She says: "Many residents will be pleased that we will be undertaking maintenance work on estate and rural roads and pavements."

There is still time to cast your vote in the Vote Poll or contribute to the Forum discussion on this subject. Village representatives are meeting in two weeks time the incoming councillor who will be responsible for roads in the new Cheshire East authority, Cllr David Brickhill. The vote result and comments will be useful in making that an informative and constructive discussion.
