New vice president Jean Cornes, welcomed members and guests and also Mrs Rosemary Mulliner as a new member to Burleydam WI at our February meeting.
Following a much enjoyed visit to a Pantomime in January, arrangements were made for an outing to see’ South Pacific’ at The Regent Theatre at Hanley in March.
There was much discussion regarding the WI’s involvement in the forthcoming celebrations for the Queen’s Jubilee at Combermere Abbey.
The speaker, Mr John Parkin, a well-known local farmer, was introduced to speak about his memories of ‘over 30 years as a Churchwarden’.
As expected, his talk proved to be very entertaining and included many comical anecdotes and was much enjoyed with much laughter by all present. The President thanked Mr Parkin and also Angela Lightfoot and Joyce Cross who were the Tea Hostesses.
The Competition for ‘A Piece of China’ was won by Isabel Allasi.
The next Meeting is on Tuesday 6th March, when Mrs Debbie Rowlands will speak about her trip to Ethiopia.
