The White Lion in Hankelow is holding a very special weekend with a grand re-opening tomorrow, Friday, and a beer festival until Bank Holiday Monday.
Landlord Gareth Blythin closed the pub this Monday for four days as he prepares for the beer festival and hog roast. The pub has been refurbished with a re-fitted kitchen, newly painted walls, new carpets, furniture and toilets. There will also be a garden and children's play area.
Gareth took over the White Lion in November when he moved from Worcestershire with his wife Carol and two children. He is delighted that he can now give the pub its improved look. He said: "It's about time we put our own stamp on the place and changed the look to suit our style. We have a Michelin-star chef and a menu of high quality food so we need a setting to reflect that."
He added: "Trade has been good since I arrived but there are still people who aren't aware that the pub has changed hands." That could all change this weekend with the grand re-opening and a free luxury buffet from 8.30pm on Friday.
The beer festival will run until Monday with customers able to choose from 21 beers and three ciders. The ales will include local favourites Weetwood and Spitting Feathers. The hog roast will run from Saturday and local band Gambler will provide entertainment on Monday at 2.00pm.
