The following message was received last night from Den C: "About 7.30pm, 30th November, in the 10 minutes between travelling to Stapeley and back, a yellow car on its roof, possibly collided with another car."
We do not know as yet whether another vehicle was involved or what happened to those in the yellow car.
There has been much discussion on the Chatbox over recent months with some correspondents saying the spate of accidents is down to bad drivers travelling too fast while others argue there is something wrong with the road itself.
Both could well be right. The police certainly think there is a problem with the road and have met with Cheshire East highways department and agreed some improvements.
After an earlier accident and much local campaigning, AudlemOnline published the following on 31st August this year:
"The police responded saying: "I agree with you in your letter that the road layout/design does appear to be a significant causatory factor in many of these incidents — a conclusion supported by the number of one vehicle collisions that have taken place."
The police then said they had supplied Cheshire East Highways Department with their figures and asked for a meeting to discuss possible engineering solutions.
After further chasing, the police confirmed a meeting with Highways had taken place who had agreed to undertake work on the bends. Specifically they are going to scrape back the carriageway where the bank has slipped down onto the road surface, place a solid white line along the road edge, renew the signage and look to place some additional slow signs on approaches and finally look into putting down solid white lines along the centre of the carriageway.
As yet, this work does not appear to have started.
