Children across Cheshire East are being encouraged to visit their local library over the summer holidays and take part in the Summer Reading Challenge.

To complete the challenge children are required to read six, or more, books of their choice and visit the library at least four times. The scheme runs from July 7th to September 8th.

On each visit to the library the children are given stickers and rewards to mark their progress. Those completing the challenge are given a medal and certificate at a special ceremony.

The theme for this year is the Story Lab and an interactive website (www.story-lab.org.uk ) encourages children to talk about their favourite books and choose their next one.

Children can sign up to the scheme by asking at their local library. There are a host of events and actvities planned across the summer holidays.

Last year 5,105 children started the challenge and 2,950 completed it. It's hoped even more children will complete the challenge this year.

Cheshire East Council is the top authority for library books issued per 1,000 of the population.
