Public Hall

The Hall, which has a licence to sell alcohol on the premises, is regularly used by many local charities and other organisations such as ASET, ADAS and ACAMF and is available for hire by individuals for private functions. The Hall plays an important part in the several established annual events - the Audlem Carnival and Music Festival (ACAMF), bonfire night celebrations, transport festival etc etc.

As well as the main Hall (which is licensed to accommodate up to 200 people) with its kitchen and bar areas, there is a committee room available separately, and a snooker room. The Hall has an extendable stage with a couple of small ante-rooms adjoining, making it eminently suitable for live performances to audiences of up to 200 people.

There are a number of clubs and organisations that are based in the Hall:

The Committee

The Committee of Management is elected at the Annual General Meeting. The current Committee officials are:

  • Chair : Geoff Stretch
  • Vice Chair : Ralph Warburton
  • Treasurer : John Tilling
  • Secretary : Janet Morgan

Committee Meetings take place on the last Wednesday of the month, in the Public Hall, commencing 7.30 pm. The Committee's task is to balance the interests of the many and varied users of the Hall, while trying to ensure its long term future, in the most economic way possible. The Committee thanks all the efforts of the users and supporters of the Hall, who make it possible to keep the facility going and to undertake the programme of addition and improvement.

Development Of Audlem Public Hall

In 2002 the Hall Committee embarked on an ambitious programme of repair and development. The first major project (2002) was to completely renew the electrical system in the Hall. During 2003, The Hall was made properly weatherproof - this involved the complete renovation of the roof. From Autumn 2004 to Spring 2005 an extension was built to house the new toilet facilities (including provision of disabled toilets) and some badly needed extra storage space. Summer 2005 saw the renovation of the main hall floor, and in the Autumn the floor in the Bar area was replaced. In 2006 many of the windows were replaced with double-glazed units. The hall was also redecorated completely, both inside and out. During 2007 the kitchen was totally refitted and the bar was improved. In 2008 the refurbishment of the bar was completed. In 2009 the Committee is hoping to install a chairlift, improve the lighting and install a sound system in the main hall and improve the front aspect of the hall by rebuilding the boundary walls and laying a new flower bed.

All these projects have only been possible with the enthusiastic support of the village community, the Parish Council, Crewe & Nantwich Borough Council and WREN (Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd) who have provided a large part of the funding. So far some £150,000 has been spent, but plenty more will be needed. Other organisations who have provided vital support are: Cheshire County Council, the Parish Councils of Buerton and Hankelow, Lloyds TSB, ASET, ADAS, ACAMF, the 5As, Audlem Bowls Club and Audlem WI. In addition there was a gift aid scheme which attracted donations of over £2400, allowing an extra £650 or so to be reclaimed from the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

All this is being carried out alongside the continuous requirement to keep up to date with the increasingly onerous legislation which affects public buildings, such as a periodical full risk assessment and a check of all electrical appliances.
