Mothers' Union

Audlem Mothers Union celebrated its 100th birthday in 2011 and is still going strong.

What is it all about?  Well, it is an international charity which began in England in 1876 with Mary Sumner who felt it important for mothers to offer mutual support to each other. The charity has grown to more than 4 million members in 83 countries caring for families in whatever way is most appropriate at a local level.  It is a Christian based charity which seeks to promote amongst its aims a society favourable for stable family life and the protection of children.

Last year the Mothers Union in the England started a campaign called Bye Buy Childhood aimed at challenging the commercialisation and sexualisation of childhood by companies through inappropriate marketing and advertising, asking families to think about their own consumer habits and holding the government accountable to its pledges to address this types of issue.

Here in Audlem the group meet most months on the 4thThursday at 2pm usually in St James’ church.  They raise funds to help the charity as well as supporting local families and enjoying the friendships and events themselves.
