Karen Bradshaw, Guide Leader, writes: “1st Audlem Guides offer places for girls aged 10 to 15 years and they do not have to have been a Brownie to join, although it is important to note that there is always a waiting list. We meet fortnightly in the Scout and Guide Hall on a Tuesday during school term-time between 7.00pm and 9.00 pm.
“During the winter months the Guides follow a range of badge-type activities known as “Go-For-Its”.
During the summer term we venture outdoors as much as possible. Playing rounders and parachute, practising cookouts and having inter-patrol cookout competitions, participating in the village scarecrow competition, and competing in our inter-patrol village pathfinder quiz keep us very busy!
Our annual “camp day” where we pitch original guiding tents, make gadgets by square lashing, do craft activities, have a cookout tea, strike tents and end with rousing renditions of traditional songs around a camp fire, remind us how exhausting 'true' camping can be but hopefully teaches initiative and is an insight into survival.
We have also started to have an Autumn Craft day where we join with the Audlem Brownies in the hall. Iced biscuits, Christmas decorations, laminated poetry, flower arrangements, decorated hats and sewing individual names and items onto our Guide and Brownie banner proved to be a huge hit. The saying that you "could have heard a pin drop" rang true with the level of concentration shown.
We now have a Senior Section for 14 - 25 year olds and is open to girls who don't need to have been in the Guides. They meet weekly during term time from 7-9 pm and do a variety of things that they themselves choose to do! Please contact Hannah Bradshaw (tel: 07791 408146) or Jane Dale (Brownies) for details.
Please note, additional adult help for all sections is always welcome, so if you can offfer this do contact Karen Bradshaw, Hannah Bradshaw or Jane Dale.
