The Charity Shop is located in small rented premises next to the Bridge Public House on Shropshire Street.
The shop was called "The Phoenix" and originated in 1972 when a group of people who had held coffee mornings and sales days to raise funds for cancer research were given the opportunity to lease rooms from the Co-op in their old building in The Square. This had once been a coaching inn called "The Phoenix" and the name was retained when the shop moved to its current premises.
Up until March 2011, the money we raised was donated exclusively to Cancer Research UK. This year we donated £21,208 and over the last 39 years a total of £263,258 has been raised.
In March 2011 the shop departed from its policy of supporting a single charity and now supports a different charity or charities each year. We accept gifts of money, clothes, bric-a-brac, jewellery, books etc but are unable to accept electrical goods or baby/child equipment as the safety of these goods has to be guaranteed by the seller.
The shop is open from 10.00-12.30 6 days a week and at other times in the summer. We can also be found at village events and we stage our own fundraising activities with Spring, Summer and Autumn Fairs (see notices in the shop for details).
All our activities are only possible through the efforts of our enthusiastic band of helpers, if you have time available and would like to support our activities please contact us.
