Aid to Cancer Research

AACR is located in a small, rented shop next to the Bridge Public House. The shop is called "The Phoenix" and originated in 1973 when a group of people who had held coffee mornings, sales days etc to raise funds for cancer research were given the opportunity to lease rooms from the Co-op in their building that had been a coaching inn called "The Phoenix". The name was retained when the shop moved to its current premises.

We raise money which is donated to Cancer Research UK. Last year we were able to donate £20,000 and over the last 30 years a total of £207,050 has been donated. We accept gifts of money, clothes, bric a brac, jewellery etc but are unable to accept electrical goods or baby/child equipment as the safety of these goods has to be guaranteed by the seller.

The shop is open from 10.00 – 12.30 6 days a week and is staffed by a band of enthusiastic helpers.
